Lane Closures for the SR-163 Friars Road Project Resume Sunday
SAN DIEGO——Motorists should expect a traffic delays traveling though Mission Valley on State Route 163 (SR-163) beginning on Sunday at 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday. Construction crews will close up to three lanes of the highway in both the northbound and southbound directions between Friars Road and Genesee Avenue. Caltrans crews will continue the closures through Friday, May 11 nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.. The work is part of the SR-163 Friars Road Interchange Project.
During the Sunday closure, crews will close three lanes in each direction primarily during the early morning and late evening hours when traffic volumes are lowest. At least two lanes will be open during the afternoon and early evening hours.
The $40 million project will widen the SR-163 Friars Road overcrossing as well as improve the SR-163 on- and off-ramps. In addition, a southbound SR-163 auxiliary lane just north of the Friars Road off-ramp will be constructed.
