Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Geographic Information Systems are used within Transportation Planning and District 5 in general to manage data and perform mapping tasks.
GIS Data
The Caltrans Office of GIS maintains a listing of available GIS data. These data cannot be downloaded from the web site, but they can be requested from the District 5 GIS Coordinator (see Contact below).
Not listed on this web site, but available upon request are these additional GIS data and tools:
- State Highways (see metadata)
- Functionally Classified Roads (see metadata)
- Postmiles (see metadata)
- Postmiler tool (creates GIS point and/or line features along state highway using County, Route, and Postmile; see documentation)
- Highway Sequence Lookup tool (lists valid postmile ranges for all state highways; see documentation)
