Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt Information

The District 1 Materials Laboratory strongly encourages the use of Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt (RHMA) pavement.  RHMA pavement has proven to provide a longer life than conventional asphalt concrete.  Additionally, Assembly Bill 338 (AB 338) requires the Department of Transportation to meet minimum RHMA usage amounts, which are targeted to increase year-to-year with a ceiling of 35% of projects constructed using RHMA by January 1, 2013. Please review Design Directive NR D-10, “Effective Utilization of Rubberized Asphalt Concrete” for further information regarding background and constructability.
