Route 199/197 Review Committee in Del Norte County. This committee represents Caltrans, CHP, local government organizations, and private industry. It was originally organized to identify restrictions for wide loads, but it is now focused on Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) restrictions along Routes 197 and 199. The committee has identified a number of areas that need widening or curve realignment in order to remove current restrictions that prohibit STAA vehicles from using these routes, including the Narrows Widening Project, which is expected to go out to bid fall 2008.
