Narrows - Introduction

Route 199 through the Narrows project limits is a sharply curving two-lane roadway with guardrail on the south side and a cut bank of cliff face on the north side containing overhanging rock outcrops.
This $3.5 million project proposes to widen the roadway by cutting deeper into the existing cut bank. Isolated outcrops of overhanging or loose rock above the excavation limits will be cut back to stable angles. The proposed improvements will allow the larger trucks to pass by each other without crossing the double yellow line. The widening will also increase sight distance, giving drives more time to react to road hazards.
