Caltrans to Detour Northbound Interstate 15
Bike Lane
At Via Rancho Parkway
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will detour the northbound Interstate 15 (I-15) bike lane just north of Lake Hodges near Via Rancho Parkway beginning Sept. 13 through mid Sept. 2007. Workers will re-stripe the existing bike lane beginning at 9 p.m. and finish by 5 a.m. Sept. 14. During this detour, bikers will no longer be able to ride on the freeway shoulder between Lake Hodges and Centre City Parkway.
When completed, the following detour will be in effect:
Bicyclists will be directed off the freeway north of Lake Hodges and continue parallel to I-15 until they intersect with Via Rancho Parkway. From here, bikers can turn left on Via Rancho Parkway and follow signed detours to Felicita Road and continue to Clarence Lane. Then continue on South Centre City Parkway to Citracado Parkway and then to Centre City Parkway.
Detour signs will be posted in advance of the closure to alert motorists and bicyclists of the changes on the freeway.
This work is part of a $55 million effort to build a portion of the I-15 Managed Lanes freeway improvement project. This work is expected to be completed by December 2008. These improvements will feature a roadway within the middle of I-15 that will service carpools, multi-occupant vehicles and transit. Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.
Caltrans will make every effort to minimize disruption to the public during this closure. Call (866) 890-1397 for information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline.
