I-15 Off-Ramp to West Bernardo Drive
Closed During the Day on Monday and Tuesday

SAN DIEGO The southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) off-ramp to West Bernardo Drive will be closed this Monday and Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The ramp closure will allow crews to work on drainage in the area of the bridge, which is under construction over I-15 at Highland Valley Road (also known as the Pomerado Road Bridge. Motorists who normally use this exit will be directed to use the next off-ramp at Rancho Bernardo Road.  After exiting the freeway, motorists can turn right at the end of the ramp and get onto West Bernardo Drive.

“Most of our freeway improvement work does not require us to close lanes and ramps during daytime hours on this project,” said Caltrans Assistant Resident Engineer Gustaf Silva, “but this is one of those occasions when our contractor needs to get in during the day to finish the job.”

Silva said this special work is required as the drainage consists of a 60-foot reinforced concrete pipe embedded about 15 – 25 feet below the surface of the roadway.  The pipe, about 4 feet in diameter, will cross underneath the ramp.

This work is part of a $427 million effort to build the “Middle Segment” of the I-15 Managed Lanes freeway improvement project.  When completed and opened to traffic by late 2007 or early 2008, the freeway will feature state-of-the-art lanes in the roadway median, which will service carpools, multi-occupant vehicles and transit.  Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any disruption to the public during this closure.  For more information call the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline at (866) 890-1397.
