Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility Construction Contract Awarded

SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has awarded a $15.3 million contract to Erreca’s Inc. of Lakeside, California to construct a new Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility on State Route 188 at the San Diego – Mexico border in Tecate. Approximately 300 trucks per day cross the border at this location.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) inspects commercial vehicles (trucks) for compliance with maintenance, weight and safety regulations required for travel on California highways.

The project includes construction of a truck circulation route, truck scales, 3,070 square feet of office space for CHP staff and a 2,900-square-foot inspection bay.

Landscaping will consist of native drought-tolerant plants and decorative boulders. The original adobe structures on the land will also be preserved as part of the landscape design. A permanent detention basin will treat on-site drainage.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2006.
