Freeway Closures Planned for Interstate 15
Next Week on Managed Lanes Project

SAN DIEGO Various freeway and bridge closures that will impact commuter traffic are planned over the next week along the Interstate 15 (I-15) Managed Lanes corridor.  Closures to the bridge at Duenda Road and lane closures at Green Valley Creek will require motorists to plan ahead to avoid delays to their commute.

The closures from Dec. 1 through Dec. 9 are listed below.  In each case, the full closure will be effect from 11:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. the next day.

1. Thursday (11/30/06) night through Friday (12/01/06) morning, the Duenda Road bridge will be re-striped and a new lane configuration will be implemented. Traffic will be moved from the old bridge to the new bridge.

2. Sunday (12/03/06) night and Monday (12/04/06) night, a full freeway closure for I-15 northbound and southbound lanes (but not simultaneously) will be needed for "clean-up/prep" work at the Duenda Road bridge. Workers will prepare the bridge at Duenda Road for demolition, but no actual demo work will take place.

3. Tuesday (12/05/06) night and Wednesday (12/06/06) night, partial lane closures are set for I-15 northbound for demolition of the Green Valley Creek Bridge. Residents who live near the project are advised to expect to hear noises originating from the freeway construction.

4. Thursday (12/07/06) night, full I-15 freeway closure for northbound and southbound lanes.  Work will include demolition of the south side of the Duenda Road bridge.

5. Friday (12/08/06) night and Saturday (12/09/06) night, full I-15 freeway closure for the northbound and southbound directions for demolition work at the Duenda Road bridge.  Motorists are asked to be patient as Caltrans detours traffic around the closure.  The freeway is expected to re-open by 5 a.m. Traffic delays on the local streets and I-15 may be encountered during this closure.

The closures above are part of the $427 million effort to build the “Middle Segment” of the I-15 Managed Lanes freeway improvement project.  When completed and opened to traffic by late 2007 or early 2008, the freeway will feature state-of-the-art lanes in the roadway median, which will service carpools, vanpools and buses.  Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any disruption to the public during this closure.  For more information call the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline at (866) 890-1397.  Detailed information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Project is accessible at http://www.keepsandiegomoving.com
