Major Closure Sunday on I-805

SAN DIEGO A major closure is planned for all lanes of northbound Interstate 805 (I-805) and three of the four lanes of southbound I-805 at Murray Ridge Road this Sunday night to replace a damaged overhead sign, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Starting at 9 p.m., Caltrans crews will close the eastbound and westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) connectors to northbound I-805; lanes 1, 2, and 3 on southbound I-805 from Balboa Avenue to Kearny Villa Road and the northbound on-ramp to I-805 at Murray Ridge Road.  Shortly before 10 p.m. all lanes of northbound I-805 will close from the junction of I-8 to Kearny Villa Road.  All lanes will open by 5 a.m. Monday.

“The sign was damaged about two years ago when a truck’s hydraulic bed hit the sign traveling at freeway speeds,” said Public Information Officer Edward Cartagena. “The driver of the truck and the driver of a passenger vehicle behind the truck suffered minor injuries, and it caused significant delays to that morning’s commute.”

Changeable Message Signs and detours will be placed well advance of the closure but motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and to allow for additional time to reach their destination.
