Apparent Low Bid for Interstate 15 Managed Lanes Project

SAN DIEGO –The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that FCI Constructors, Inc. of San Marcos submitted the apparent low bid of $48.4 million for construction on the south segment of the Interstate 15 Managed Lanes Project between State Route 52 and Carroll Canyon Road.

The construction is funded entirely from the Proposition 1B Corridor Mobility Improvement Account.  The work will include construction of two new lanes, three retaining walls and new bridge support columns at the Pomerado/Miramar Road overcrossing.  The Express Lanes in the median will continue to operate during construction.

The bid is under review to insure that all bid requirements are met.  If the bid meets all criteria, the contract is expected to be awarded by the end of the month.

The project is the latest in the series of projects being constructed along the 20-mile stretch of
I-15 between SR-52/SR-163 and SR-78.  The $1.2 billion Managed Lanes Project is adding four managed lanes in the median of the freeway.  Use of the lanes will be free for carpools, vanpools and buses, and Fastrak customers will pay a congestion-based fee.
