WHAT: State and regional transportation officials will be available for interviews regarding the opening of the extended carpool lanes on both northbound and southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) and one southbound auxiliary lane in Del Mar and Solana Beach. The new northbound lane will open from Via De La Valle to Manchester Avenue. The new southbound lane will be open from Lomas Santa Fe Drive to Via De La Valle. The on-ramp to southbound I-5 at Manchester Avenue will be extended with an auxiliary lane to Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Construction crews expedited work to have the lanes opened Monday, June 9 –just in time to help relieve traffic congestion generated with the start of the U.S. Open Golf Championship at nearby Torrey Pines and the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. The carpool lanes will open nine months ahead of schedule. Representatives will also answer questions about future work along the I-5 corridor.
