Officials Announce New Lanes on I-5

SAN DIEGO –State and regional transportation officials announced today that new carpool lanes and an auxiliary lane along Interstate 5 will open no later than Monday morning between the cities of Del Mar and Solana Beach.

“We expedited the work to have the lanes open before the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar,” said California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Corridor Director Allan Kosup.  “However, to ensure the lanes open on time a few of the on- and off-ramps through the area will be closed for re-striping during the evening hours this weekend.”

San Diego Association of Governments representative Dan Martin added that the lanes are open in part because of the benefit of the Transnet ½ cent sales tax extension voters approved in 2004 and it will open up more opportunities for ridesharing.

Motorists already on the freeway passing through the area will not be delayed. Access to and from the freeway between Del Mar and Solana Beach will be limited during the late night and early morning hours.

Beginning 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the ramps will close at various times. No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time.  The following off-ramps include:

Northbound Via De La Valle
Northbound Lomas Santa Fe Drive
Northbound Manchester Avenue
Southbound Manchester Avenue
Southbound Lomas Sante Fe Drive
Southbound Via De La Valle

The following on-ramps include:
Northbound from west and east bound Via De La Valle
Northbound Lomas Santa Fe Drive
Southbound Manchester Avenue
Southbound from east and west bound Lomas Santa Fe Drive
Southbound Loop from westbound Via De La Valle
Southbound from eastbound Via De La Valle (will not close until 11p.m.)

All ramps will be open by 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
