All Lanes of I-5 Open in Time for Golf Championship

SAN DIEGO –All lanes on Interstate 5 (I-5) between Via De La Via and Manchester Avenue are open, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). A carpool lane on northbound I-5 from Via De La Via to Manchester Avenue opened Monday.  This morning on southbound I-5 an auxiliary lane opened from Manchester Avenue to Lomas Santa Fe Drive and a carpool lane opened from Lomas Santa Fe Drive to Via De La Via.

“We wanted to have the lanes open before the start of the U.S. Open and the San Diego County Fair,” said Deputy District Director of Construction Armando Garcia.  “These lanes should help alleviate one of the most congested bottlenecks in the county. I want to thank our contractors Coffaman Specialties and Payco Specialties for getting these lanes open on time.”

The United State Golf Association (U.S.G.A) has a permit though Caltrans to place signs on area freeways directing spectators to Qualcomm Stadium for a free shuttle to Torrey Pines.

Caltrans expects additional traffic on I-5 in the area of Carmel Valley and through the cities of Del Mar and Solana Beach but anticipates motorists traveling through to move with minimum delay.  Motorist wishing to exit any off-ramp on either northbound or southbound I-5 between Genesee Avenue and Manchester Avenue, to please add extra time to your commute through Sunday evening.
