Caltrans Earns Top Honors For Toll Road And TransNet Program

SAN DIEGO –The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 11 was recently recognized by the California Transportation Foundation with two 2008 TRANNY Awards for the South Bay Expressway Project (State Route 125 South Toll Road) and the TransNet Early Action Program.

“The South Bay Expressway has helped reduce traffic congestion on Interstate 805 and local arterials since opening last November,” said Caltrans District Director Pedro Orso-Delgado. “I drive on this road daily and appreciate the time I save. It is fitting that the new toll road would be recognized as one of the top highway projects in the state.”

The award is the latest addition to the list of numerous other accolades received, including a 2008 Caltrans Excellence in Transportation Award, a Globe Award from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, and a Transportation Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America, San Diego chapter.

The TransNet Early Action Program, overseen by the San Diego Association of Governments, is the half-cent sales tax in San Diego County. The program is advancing several high-priority transportation improvement projects including the upcoming Interstate 5 North Coast Corridor Project, the I-15 Managed Lanes Project, the I-805 Corridor Project, the extension of State Route 52, and the widening of SR-76.
