Interstate 5/Lomas Santa Fe Interchange Work Postponed
SAN DIEGO –The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has postponed work at the Lomas Santa Fe interchange planned for this weekend.
On Friday, August 1, Lomas Santa Fe Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction. All lanes will be closed between 8 p.m. on Friday and 5 a.m. on Monday, August 4. The northbound I-5 on-ramp may be closed all weekend.
Work will continue during the weekdays. Two lanes will be open on Lomas Santa Fe Drive in each direction; however, traffic heading eastbound on Lomas Santa Fe to northbound I-5 will need to make a U-turn at Santa Helena. A detour will be in place for trucks traveling eastbound on Lomas Santa Fe to northbound I-5.
The same closure from the previous weekend will be in effect from Friday evening, Aug. 1 through Monday morning, Aug. 4. Caltrans recommends that motorists use parallel city streets such as Via de la Valle or Manchester Avenue to cross or access I-5.
Two new loop-style on-ramps are being constructed to better direct traffic onto the freeway and improve local traffic flow on Lomas Santa Fe Drive. The work is part of the I-5 North Coast Corridor Project, which is funded by the voter-approved Proposition 1B Transportation Bond and TransNet, San Diego County’s half-cent sales tax.
