Caltrans Complies With Court Order To Re-install Minutemen Adopt-A-Highway Sign
SAN DIEGO –The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) complied with a federal court order today to re-install the Adopt-A-Highway sign issued to the San Diego Minutemen.
The sign was returned to its previous location along Interstate 5 near the San Clemente Border Patrol Station. Caltrans is unable to comment any further about the permit granted to the San Diego Minutemen because of ongoing litigation. New applications from potential volunteers are not being accepted at this time.
The Adopt-A-Highway program plays an important role in helping to keep state roads litter-free. Last year, Caltrans spent $2.5 million to collect more than 19,000 cubic yards of litter. Program volunteers pick up about 140,000 bags of trash from San Diego highway roadsides each year.
