Q) The published Enginee's Estimate for this Project is $1,380,000. A recent project with only 8,100 tons fo Gap Graded Polymer modified asphalt concrete (Bonded wearing course)and striping exceeded $1,241,000. The Engineer's Estimate would appear to be VERY VERY low. If the bids exceed the Engineer's Estimate by a factor of two does Caltrans intend to awrd the project?
A)It should be noted that the two projects while using some of the same material are different. The project referenced had intersections and left turn lanes along with short traffic closures, that increased costs. This project can close the number 1 or 3 lane and allow paving during the day.
We plan on awarding the contract.
Q) Please specify the oil to be used in the Type A Asphalt Concrete For Itmes 9 & 12
A) Bid in accordance with the contract plans and specifications.
Q) Detector loops are located in the areas of replace AC surfacing. replacing the AC as shown on the plans would require cutting the loops. Are the loops to be abandoned? If the loops are to be replaced, How will this work be paid for?
A) This will be determined in the field. If the loops are replaced, it will be done under a contract change order as determined necessary by the Resident Engineer.
Q) What is the distance required between closures in the same direction?
A) The maximum permitted length of closure is 1.6km.
