Q) I notice that there is no lime treated aggregate or warrenty spec. Is this an oversite?
A) There was no oversite, no lime treatment and warranty on this project.
Q) AC content required is 7.0 - 9.0%. Aggregate gradation is typical Caltrans Type G. Typical Type G ARHM air voids requirement is 3 or 4%. Is the present requirement of 6.0% air voids what the designer has in mind? Without modifying the aggregate structure to accomodate additional fines and/or coarser top-size aggregate this specification as-written seems impracticable.
A) Yes, this is what the designer had in mind. The air voids are attainable by altering the coarseness or fineness of the combined aggregate within the specified gradation taking into account the specified binder content range and crumb rubber percentage.
