
Environmental Information
The Division of Local Assistance provides guidance on environmental procedures and liaison services between local agencies and their transportation counterparts in Caltrans, FHWA, and Resource Agencies. For assistance with environmental concerns, please contact your District Local Assistance Engineer.

Local Assistance has collaborated closely with the Caltrans Division of Environmental Analysis in the development of a Standard Environmental Reference (SER). The SER will enable local agencies to develop consistently superior environmental documents, according to the criteria of the various agencies which review them. The SER is a work in progress. It is being made available, online, as it becomes available:
- Standard Environmental Reference (SER) Also referred to as Volume I of the Caltrans Environmental Handbook: Guidance for Compliance. (Available online, only.) Subsequent volumes of the Handbook provide more in-depth coverage of some topics covered in Volume I (see links below).
