Safe Routes to School
Previous SR2S Program (6 Cycles Implemented)
Downloadable below are the lists of successful projects over the past six cycles of the Safe Routes to School Program (SR2S). This initial program was established by State legislation with a sunset date of January 1, 2008. With the passage of SAFETEA-LU in 2005, federal Safe Routes to School funds were made available to states nationwide. For this reason, current statutes will be revised to reflect SAFETEA-LU provisions as the State program is phased out. A call for projects for the seventh and final cycle of the State program will be posted shortly as soon as the funding amount is determined.
SB 10, which reauthorized the SR2S Program in 2001, required that Caltrans conduct a SRT2S study and prepare a Report to the Legislature by 2003 to provide 1) an overview of the study along with a summary of results, and 2) desired results. The University of California at Irvine was contracted to conduct that study and prepare the two volumes listed below for submittal to Legislature.
On June 16, 2006, the following list of SR2S projects were released under the 6th Cycle of the program.
Projects selected for each of the five previous annual cycles are shown in the following files:
