BEFORE YOU CONSULT THE HISTORIC BRIDGE INVENTORY, PLEASE READ THIS:
This inventory was completed in 1986 and the inventory was updated in 2007. In most cases these are Category 5 bridges (determined not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places) because they were not 50 years old and did not possess exceptional significance at the time they were evaluated. Because more than a decade has passed since the original inventory such bridges are now 50 years old and may have gained historical significance.
- New information or passage of time has caused the bridge to become historically significant,
- The bridge was not previously evaluated
- conditions have not changed and bridge is still ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (confirming that the prior evaluation is still valid).
Re-evaluations must be documented on the appropriate inventory forms and in cultural resource study documents
If you have questions about how to document these bridges, please contact the Chief of the Historic Architectural Specialty Branch, Caltrans Environmental Program at (916) 653-1029.
