Transportation Planning Field Academy

WHAT IS THE FIELD ACADEMY?:

  • An advanced Planning Academy that explores the roles of Caltrans Planners, and examines how they can play a role in the decision-making process.
  • A two-week long training academy to examine what is happening in the field of Transportation Planning. 
  • An Opportunity to hear industry experts speak about current transportation trends and projects, and to take numerous “field trips” that provide first-experience with these concepts.
  • A chance to examine on-the-ground examples of facilities that many CT Transportation Planners have only experienced in theory.
  • One week will be in Northern California, the other in Southern California. The Northern and Southern California workshops will take place at different times.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Journey level and above Transportation Planners who have completed the Basic Academy

  • Transit Oriented Developments
  • Transportation Management Centers

HISTORY

  • Began thinking about this in 2002
  • Budget Issues required the first sections be developed in modules
    • Planning on Track San Joaquin—Land Use and Development along Rail
    • Planning on Track Capitol Corridor—Transit and Connectivity
    • TOD Tour—Transit Oriented Developments
  • Southern California Delivery
  • Currently Under Development
