Transportation planning
Focus Groups and Customer Survey Activities
The Department is committed to developing a California Transportation Plan that considers the needs of all Californians. Determining issues and goals for our massive transportation system is a very large task. California is a diverse state with diverse needs, wants and ideas on how we should prioritize different goals. In addition, although the Department has the task of overseeing our state highways, local agencies have control over various transportation components in regions. As you can see, working together with various agencies and the public, will help shape where we go from here.
To expand on this concept we have completed research through focus group proceedings and telephone surveys. The purpose of these activities was to provide the Department with input into the development of the California Transportation Plan, to identify how the public feels we are doing, and to provide us with insight on where we need to go from here.
A total of 57 focus group discussions were conducted statewide targeting transportation providers and users. In addition, 3,200 random telephone surveys were completed. Input from these activities are currently being tallied and will be finalized in September of 2001.
