SAN FRANCISCO — In this Caltrans News Flash, you’ll see how the Caltrans engineers and contractors replaced a badly outdated and obsolete drain pipe in the environmentally-sensitive Crissy Field section of San Francisco. The outdated pipe caused chronic flooding in the area. With the expansion of nearby Highway 1, the need for a new, larger pipe became urgent.
Using creative thinking and ingenuity, the team replaced the pipe with no environmental damage. The project finished on time and within budget. The floods are now a thing of the past. People now pass the site every day unaware that any construction work ever took place.
