Three priorities of Goal 3 (Sustainability, Livability, and Economy) of the Strategic Management Plan (SMP)
Caltrans Director's Policy 33
The Sustainability Program also promotes continual improvement in Department practices to conserve energy, water, and other natural resources, while decreasing greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. Many aspects of this continual improvement effort are addressed in the Caltrans Sustainability Roadmap 2018-2019.
The Sustainability Team compiled the Mode Share Action Plan 1.0, in partnership with staff across many divisions, to clearly identify the highest impact activities led by Caltrans aimed at achieving three key targets from the SMP Goal 3 to triple bicycle trips, double walk trips, and double transit trips statewide.
The Department's executive leadership provides policy direction through the Goal 3 Sponsors, which was established to guide implementation of the SMP Goal 3. Goal 3 Team members include four Deputy Directors, three District Directors, and a representative from the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA).
